a pillar of the community = a leader / very important person in the community

a dispute = an argument = people disagree and argue
undisputed = everyone agrees

e.g. Every student at X University must take English 101.
English 101 is mandatory for every student.

At my school, joining a club is not mandatory.

My class went on an excursion to a history museum.
We went to see a Stone Age exhibition.

exhibitions = art show
e.g. The Ueno Royal Museum has a Van Gogh exhibition this summer =
The Ueno Royal Museum is showing many Van Gogh paintings this summer
(exhibit = a smaller version of an exhibition)

hone in on ___ = focus in on ___
e.g. I am going to hone in on my grammar skills for the test tomorrow.

fascinated / fascinating = wow! / deeply interested
Human biology is fascinating. / I am fascinated by biology.

I was enamored with Western culture. = I fell in love with Western culture.

have an inkling = have a small idea/guess
