The earth is round. The earth is like a huge ball. vs “The earth is flat.”
Columbus thought he would reach India if he went west. “The New World” = North and South America

main people:
Christopher Columbus – a brave Italian sailor
Amerigo Vespucci – an European explorer who went to many countries
Queen of Spain – she believed Columbus and gave him three ships
“Indians” – people who live(d) in North and South America. Columbus thought he reached India. (Today, we call them “Native Americans” because Columbus made a mistake.)

He explored the long coast of South America and made maps of it.

Because she believed Columbus.

How did the first colonists survive (live and not die) in America?
They hunted rabbits and turkeys and deer, and they planted some vegetables.
However, when winter came, they did not have enough food so many of the colonists became ill and died.

Why are there 13 stripes on the American flag?
They stand for the first thirteen states.
